BIND 4.0 Attracts 700+ International Startups to its 7th Open Call. The most International & Sustainable Edition so far.

 

The BIND 4.0 Open Innovation Platform, has closed the call for the seventh edition of its Open Innovation and Startup Acceleration program with just over 700 applications from 70 different countries. 

The number of international startup applicants has risen increasingly with each edition as we grow our global startup network and our reputation for success. With 483 registrants in total, European startups account for more than 65% of the total applications. Combined with candidates from Asia, Africa and the Americas, these figures have helped position BIND 4.0 as a program of reference for open innovation and acceleration for startups worldwide. 

Regarding the geographical breakdown of the candidates, this year, we received the highest number of applications from Spain with 139 total (including 48 from the Basque Country.) The next European country with the largest number of applications is the United Kingdom, followed by Germany, Italy, Portugal and France, among others. We are proud of these figures and the applications received globally, as they represent the BIND 4.0 edition with highest international response so far.

200+ Proposals for Clean & Sustainable Solutions

As for the applicable verticals for the technologies presented, this year 45% of the startups presented solutions with potential application to the area of Intelligent Industry. Followed, in second place, by technologies with potential application to the clean and sustainable energy sector, which have a representation of 21%, in third place the health sector with 19% and another 15% have a use case in the food & beverage industry.

One of the main challenges facing the startups of the 7th edition is the development of new solutions capable of achieving a cleaner and more sustainable industry. The reduction of energy consumption is currently one of the top Industry 4.0 objectives. Not surprisingly, in the last open call we received more than 200 applications with technological solutions with potential application to the field of energy efficiency and sustainability, with the aim of responding to this new demand from companies across verticals.

Trending Tech: Artificial Intelligence, IoT & Big Data 

As for the technologies that stand out the most, 50% of the registrations this year can be categorized as Artificial Intelligence, Internet of Things or Big Data. Followed by other disruptive technologies such as virtual and augmented reality, additive manufacturing, collaborative robotics, artificial vision and cybersecurity, among others. 

70 Corporate Companies to Select Startup Participants 

The solutions that will define the future of the industry in the coming years will be developed based on the technologies presented. The Startup Participants for the Acceleration Program will be selected by 70 Corporate Venture Clients and will be announced in January 2023. 

Large companies leading the digital transformation of industry such as Mercedes-Benz, ITP Aero, Tubos Reunidos, Siemens Gamesa, Iberdrola, Bridgestone, Faes Farma, Keralty, Unilever and Coca-Cola European Partners, among others, will select the technologies that best support their needs. 

These Corporate Clients will collaborate with the startups to create revolutionary solutions to automate factory production processes, reduce energy consumption and pollution, achieve renewable energy storage, build an increasingly intelligent mobility with the design of new vehicles and new forms of energy recharging and create new sustainable materials. All with a single common goal: to achieve a smarter, more sustainable and efficient industry in the future.
